IN THE JUVENILE COURT OF SUMTER COUNTY
STATE OF GEORGIA

NOTICE OF SUMMONS
TO: NANDI S. BATTLE, MOTHER, GREGORY HOOD AND KEITH GRANT, ALLEGED PUTATIVE FATHERS, AND ANY UNKNOWN PUTATIVE FATHER(S)
YOU ARE HEREBY COMMANDED AND REQUIRED to appear before the Juvenile Court of Sumter County, Georgia, at the Sumter County Courthouse, 500 West Lamar Street, Americus, Georgia 31709, on Wednesday, JULY 1, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. The hearing is for the purpose of terminating your parental rights. You are commanded to lay any and all business aside and to be and appear before the Juvenile Court of Sumter County, Georgia, and to remain in attendance from hour to hour, day to day, month to month, year to year, and time to time, as said case may be continued, until discharged by the Court.
NOTICE OF EFFECT OF TERMINATION JUDGMENT
Georgia law provides that you can permanently lose your rights as a parent. You are hereby notified that the above styled action seeking a Petition for Termination of Parental Rights of said children was filed in said Court on April 14, 2026, and an Order for Service by Publication entered by the Court on April 14, 2026. A free copy of the Petition can be obtained from the Clerk of this Court during business hours.
If you fail to appear, the Court can terminate your rights in your absence. If the Court at the trial finds that the facts set out in the Petition for Termination of Parental Rights are true and that termination of your rights will serve the best interest of your child(ren), the Court can enter a judgment ending your rights to your child(ren).
The general nature of the allegations is that the children are dependent children in that he/she/they are neglected and/or abused, and in need of the protection of the Court; that the parents have failed, without justifiable cause, to care for the children, form a parental bond with the children or provide support for the children for the past 12 months or more. The children are in the custody of Sumter County Department of Family and Children Services.
If the judgment terminates your parental rights, you will no longer have any rights to your children. This means that you will not have the right to visit, contact or have custody of your child(ren) or make any decisions affecting your child(ren) or your child(ren)’s earnings or property. Your children will be legally free to be adopted by someone else.
Even if your parental rights are terminated: (1) You will still be responsible for providing financial support (child support payments) for your child(ren)’s care unless and until your child(ren) are adopted and (2) your child(ren) can still inherit from you unless and until your child(ren) is/are adopted.
Take notice that child hearsay may be offered in lieu of actual testimony from an involved child. However, the child will be available for cross examination by the parties or their attorney if demanded for confrontation purposes.
This is a very serious matter. You should contact an attorney immediately so that you can be prepared for the court hearing. You have the right to hire an attorney and to have him or her represent you. If you cannot afford to hire an attorney, the court will appoint an attorney if the court finds that you are an indigent person. Whether or not you decide to hire an attorney, you have the right to attend the hearing of your case, to call witnesses on your behalf, and to question those witnesses brought against you.
